November Residency at GC de Rinck in Anderlecht, Brussels.
During the month of November, I'll be working in "the attic" of De Rinck, in Anderlecht—a full mirror wall opposite the windows overlooking the bustling neighborhood will give me time to reflect on my practice (and on myself?!).

"Separation, Connection, Circulation", GC de Rinck, Brussels.
"Separation, Connection, Circulation" is an exhibition that occupies a liminal space—a corridor. This space mirrors the position many artists occupy: on the periphery, observing and reflecting on the mainstream. It is in these in-between places that artists, attuned to societal currents, often depict not only life’s discomforts but also generate narratives around subjects that frequently go unseen or unheard.
The works on display delve into the nuanced intersections between separation and connection, from the artist's own self to the external world, as an extension of one’s own present emotional state. The corridor, typically a place of passage, becomes a metaphor for this continuous flow and exchange depicted in the paintings.
The artist’s work embodies a deep sensitivity to the invisible, exploring the emotional undercurrents and sensory experiences that lie beyond language. The gestural movements in the paintings are physical manifestations of energy and subtlety, seeking to process and make sense of unseen dynamics.

"LA PLAGE" - 100% FREE SPACE.
Following my yearly tradition of applying for a free studio to work in during the summer, this year's opportunity takes me to "LA PLAGE" in GC Nekkersdal, Laeken. The name is particularly convenient and fitting for me. This is an excellent opportunity to visit another corner of this city and explore how its context may influence or inspire my artistic practice. The 100% Free Space of the N22 Brusselse Gemeenschapscentra is just one of many wonderful initiatives happening in this vibrant city.

NICC & Kunstenpunt (Flanders Arts Institute) Working Group - Care & Wellbeing for Belgium-based visual artists
Something within me was flourishing, a desire to participate. I came across an association called NICC, which advocates for visual artists in the territories of Flanders and Brussels.
They encountered some studies in Belgium that clearly show that the visual arts were the least supported.
Together with Kunstenpunt, the Flanders Institute for the Arts, they organized two sessions. The first was a small committee meeting to discuss points regarding health and well-being in the visual arts. The second session was open to the public to present the work already completed, as well as to explore opportunities for further development and address any additional concerns.
This initiative is part of a dossier that will be presented to the Minister of Culture.
I'm proud to be part of this endeavor.

Find my profile in the Flanders Arts Institute database.
Kunstenpunt is the Flanders Arts Institute, an institution facilitating cultural exchange, researching in the arts field and supporting artists in the territories of Flanders and Brussels. They invited me to be part of their database which brings me a sense of belonging quite necessary for me as an expat.
I provided a few pictures of my work and a short artist statement. Check it out HERE.

Group Exhibition: "Intime/Sinergie" - INTIMATE/SYNERGY - Motoco, Mulhouse, France.
22 to 24 September
"If we can identify a unifying aspect among all the residents of Motoco, it is the perpetual oscillation between profoundly solitary work and the moments of interaction with fellow studio occupants. This essence is often scarcely discernible to external observers. On the journey inward, it manifests as an expression of the intimate, while on the return journey, it embodies the manifestation of collective synergy."
Main Room - Ground Floor.
OPEN STUDIO TIMES:
Saturday 23 - 2 to 7 pm
Sunday 24 - 11 to 7 pm
1st Floor - n. 19 - Welcome!

August in Brussels.
I will be working in two different places in Brussels this August. At Op-Weule and Pianofabriek, part of the network N22 of the "Brusselse Gemeenschapscentrum". They instigated a project called 100% Free Space in which artists can use space available as studios for free during summer. Last year I spent time at WaBo, in Boitsfort, which was a great experience.

De Kastanje - Summer 2022
I have been granted a short residency in front of The Sonian Forest (most locals don't know the name in English), "Zoniënwoud" or "La Fôret De Soignes" - where I would love to have my own long-term studio.
"De Kastanje" - in the picture - is the room where I will spend most of my time this August. I'm happy to have received this present - thanks to N22 Brusselse Gemeenschaps Centra and Kunstenwerkplaats.

"RAIN! AND SO ON..." EXHIBITION AT SEE U IN BRUSSELS.
From the 29th of July to the 2nd of August.
Rain! And so on…” is an exhibition of selected abstract paintings and text-based artworks created since 2018, when the artist arrived in Brussels.
Laura Basterra’s work is a response to her immediate environment: the sounds, the colours, the events around her, and the moods these impress upon her.
Basterra is constantly searching for lines and shapes that suggest directions and motion as if she were representing the ever-changing reality.
The way she expresses herself is pretty intense and polarised, extreme at times, and emotional.
In her own words: “Just to be present with my brushes and my medium, I know that an understanding between my mind, body, emotions and soul will happen and that the painting that is in front of me, is speaking a moment of my truth. It's these moments of my reality that are important to me.”
The artist also works with text. Writing opens a process of transformation of ideas, a connection between words that don’t need to have an apparent logic. This process helps her have a deeper understanding of her present and aids in the evolution and momentum that is more appealing for her ideology.
Opening hours:
Wednesday 18:30h Opening.
Thursday and Friday from 16h to 22h.
